Levels of Purpose

Notes from "A Purpose Derived Life"
(a work in progress)

Levels of Purpose (Chapter Four)

I discuss the idea that there are two levels of purpose in one's life. There is general purpose which is learning to live in tune with the nature of the universe and the nature of humanity. People need to balance the forces of entropy from the outside with syntropy from the inside. Those two forces are expressed in two ways that psychologists term agency and communion. Agency is the drive to be an individual while communion is the drive to connect with others.

Specific Purpose is the thing (or things) an individual chooses to focus their life upon. This will be the subject of the next chapter.
