George and the Dragon

Notes from "A Purpose Derived Life"

(a work in progress)

Part of my difficulty in deciding upon a next project was that I couldn't decide on whether I wanted to write fiction or non-fiction. I settled on the non-fiction study of the pursuit of meaning but have worked in some fiction as well. Specifically, I am writing a version of the story of George and the Dragon as a metaphor for the tough questions in life that hound us and threaten to overtake us when we do not consider them and our significance. The dragon lies below the surface of a muddy pool and rises up in moments of silence and contemplation. We can try to ignore it but it never really goes away and may even threaten to eat us. George found a way to slay the dragon and so must we.
